Day 15 Vernal, UT

Day 15
I know I still have to make up for yesterday and the day before, but I can't help telling about today!
We woke up cool!!! It was 56 degrees. Our tent was just right. Not too hot and not too cold! We had a wonderful breakfast in the house we are staying at. Martty and Doug are in a room in the house, we are in a tent. Chris is in a pup tent on his own. Anyhow, the breakfast was so much food! My kids ate and ate and still there was leftovers. We are staying at a gorgeous Bed and Breakfast, called Jensen's Inn. It is so wonderful. The owners Judith and Allen are perfect hosts. You would love them. Stay here, if you come to see Dinosaur National Monument. The funny thing is, it has two entrances. One here in UT, the other in Dinosaur, CO. Yet, the museum and quarry with all the dinosaurs to see is here in UT! It was amazing. We drove 7 miles in on a neat winding road to the monument. There was a neat visitor center, with a movie about the monument. They shuttles us up the mountain to another site. It was the site of the quarry, where they found all the dinosaur bones on the SIDE of the mountain. It was gigantic. All in all, they found 400 dinosaurs there. Not kinds, I meant individuals.
There are about 100 left on the wall, and it sure looks impressive. The signs say, that there were was a river, and lots of dinosaurs loved there. A drought came and all the dinosaurs managed to die in the dry river bed. A flood came and covered all 400 of them.........hmmmm,...
We stayed for the ranger program. The ranger began her talk to 12 children with facts. 4 were mine. Mine were the oldest. First fact, did we know that Tyrannosaurus rex had feathers? Did we know the fastest dinosaur alive today was the peregrine falcon. All birds are dinosaurs she said. She then asked if we knew what the smallest dinosaur alive today was? It is a hummingbird.  She began to talk about evolution of dinosaurs to birds. It was very interesting to hear her talk. A man came up and asked me, what I thought about all these dinosaurs. I said it seemed surprising to find them on top of a mountain with dirt behind me on one face, and rock in front of me. He then asked if I was one of those nuts who believes the earth is 6000 years old, and didn't in know that the earth was 4 billion years old? It was kind of funny, because he went on and on without giving me a word edgewise!
We hiked into a boxed canyon, had lunch at a beautiful spot by the Green River, and explored and drove around a tiny portion of the park. The park is GIGANTIC! We hiked up close to reall petroglyphs. We discussed why they were there in such a remote area, who made them and why. We decided on bored teens did them 1000 years ago before Rubik's cubes came along!! I will have to post more photos later. They are not all downloaded yet. All in all it was a wonderful cold day! Beca drove us 7 miles back to Jensen's Inn...we pretended to be scared!
